Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install qdirstat
on Kali Linux.
What is qdirstat
qdirstat is:
QDirStat is a graphical application to show where your disk space has gone and
to help you to clean it up.
QDirStat has a number of new features compared to KDirStat. To name a few:
- Multi-selection in both the tree and the treemap.
- Unlimited number of user-defined cleanup actions.
- Properly show errors of cleanup actions (and their output, if desired).
- File categories (MIME types) and their treemap color are now configurable.
- Exclude rules for directories are easily configurable.
- Desktop-agnostic; no longer relies on KDE or any other specific desktop.
There are three methods to install qdirstat
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install qdirstat Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install qdirstat
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install qdirstat

sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install qdirstat
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install qdirstat
Install qdirstat Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install qdirstat
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install qdirstat
How To Uninstall qdirstat on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the qdirstat
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove qdirstat
Uninstall qdirstat And Its Dependencies
To uninstall qdirstat
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove qdirstat
Remove qdirstat Configurations and Data
To remove qdirstat
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge qdirstat
Remove qdirstat configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove qdirstat
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge qdirstat
