What is spew
spew is:
Spew is used to measure I/O performance of character devices, block
devices, and regular files. It can also be used to generate high I/O loads
to stress systems while verifying data integrity.
Spew is easy to use and is flexible. No configuration files or
complicated client/server configurations are needed. Spew also generates
its own data patterns that are designed to make it easy to find and debug
data integrity problems.
There are three methods to install spew
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install spew Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install spew
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install spew
Install spew Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install spew
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install spew
Install spew Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install spew
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install spew
How To Uninstall spew on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the spew
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove spew
Uninstall spew And Its Dependencies
To uninstall spew
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove spew
Remove spew Configurations and Data
To remove spew
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge spew
Remove spew configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove spew
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge spew
