Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install sshesame
on Kali Linux.
What is sshesame
sshesame is:
This package contains a fake SSH server that lets everyone in and logs
their activity.
Details sshesame accepts and logs
- every password authentication request,
- every SSH channel open request and
- every SSH request
without actually executing anything on the host.
Warning: This software, just like any other, might contain bugs. Given
the popular nature of SSH, you probably shouldn’t run it unsupervised as
root on a production server on port 22. Use common sense.
There are three methods to install sshesame
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install sshesame Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install sshesame
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install sshesame
Install sshesame Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install sshesame
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install sshesame
Install sshesame Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install sshesame
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install sshesame
How To Uninstall sshesame on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the sshesame
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove sshesame
Uninstall sshesame And Its Dependencies
To uninstall sshesame
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove sshesame
Remove sshesame Configurations and Data
To remove sshesame
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge sshesame
Remove sshesame configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove sshesame
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge sshesame
