Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install swatch
on Kali Linux.
What is swatch
swatch is:
Swatch is designed to monitor system activity. It reads a configuration
file which contains pattern(s) to look for and action(s) to perform when
each pattern is found.
A typical action is echoing the matched line in a variety of colours and
formats including reverse video, bold, underline, and normal, which swatch
knows how to do internally. Other actions include sending mail or
executing an arbitrary program on the line.
Swatch is written in Perl and uses Perl regular expressions for line
matching.
There are three methods to install swatch
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install swatch Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install swatch
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install swatch
Install swatch Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install swatch
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install swatch
Install swatch Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install swatch
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install swatch
How To Uninstall swatch on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the swatch
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove swatch
Uninstall swatch And Its Dependencies
To uninstall swatch
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove swatch
Remove swatch Configurations and Data
To remove swatch
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge swatch
Remove swatch configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove swatch
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge swatch
