In this tutorial we learn how to install switchconf on Kali Linux.
What is switchconf
switchconf is:
Switchconf allows users to easily change their system’s settings,
choosing between the possible configurations for different
environments.
Most switchconf users are laptop owners who want to change their
network settings according to where they currently are – but there
are many cases for non mobile systems to desire to choose between
configuration sets.
Switchconf is a very simple script that takes its arguments from the
command line. It allows you to maintain different sets of
configurations, installing the desired set of configuration when
called with its name as an argument, and execute a pre-specified set
of commands before and after the switch.
There are three methods to install switchconf on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install switchconf Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install switchconf using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install switchconfInstall switchconf Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install switchconf using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install switchconf
Install switchconf Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install switchconf using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install switchconf
How To Uninstall switchconf on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the switchconf package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove switchconf
Uninstall switchconf And Its Dependencies
To uninstall switchconf and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove switchconf
Remove switchconf Configurations and Data
To remove switchconf configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge switchconf
Remove switchconf configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove switchconf configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge switchconf
