Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install sysbench
on Kali Linux.
What is sysbench
sysbench is:
SysBench is a modular, scriptable and multi-threaded benchmark tool based on
LuaJIT. It is most frequently used for database benchmarks, but can also be
used to create arbitrarily complex workloads that do not involve a database
server.
The idea of this benchmark suite is to quickly get an impression about system
performance without setting up complex database benchmarks or even without
installing a database at all.
Current features allow one to test the following system parameters:
- file I/O performance
- scheduler performance
- memory allocation and transfer speed
- POSIX threads implementation performance
- database server performance (OLTP benchmark)
Primarily written for MySQL server benchmarking, SysBench will be further
extended to support multiple database backends, distributed benchmarks and
third-party plug-in modules.
There are three methods to install sysbench
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install sysbench Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install sysbench
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install sysbench
Install sysbench Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install sysbench
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install sysbench
Install sysbench Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install sysbench
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install sysbench
How To Uninstall sysbench on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the sysbench
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove sysbench
Uninstall sysbench And Its Dependencies
To uninstall sysbench
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove sysbench
Remove sysbench Configurations and Data
To remove sysbench
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge sysbench
Remove sysbench configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove sysbench
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge sysbench
Dependencies
sysbench have the following dependencies:
