Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install sysstat
on Kali Linux.
What is sysstat
sysstat is:
The sysstat package contains the following system performance tools:
- sar: collects and reports system activity information;
- iostat: reports CPU utilization and disk I/O statistics;
- tapestat: reports statistics for tapes connected to the system;
- mpstat: reports global and per-processor statistics;
- pidstat: reports statistics for Linux tasks (processes);
- sadf: displays data collected by sar in various formats;
- cifsiostat: reports I/O statistics for CIFS filesystems.
The statistics reported by sar deal with I/O transfer rates,
paging activity, process-related activities, interrupts,
network activity, memory and swap space utilization, CPU
utilization, kernel activities and TTY statistics, among
others. Both UP and SMP machines are fully supported.
There are three methods to install sysstat
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install sysstat Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install sysstat
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install sysstat
Install sysstat Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install sysstat
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install sysstat
Install sysstat Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install sysstat
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install sysstat
How To Uninstall sysstat on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the sysstat
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove sysstat
Uninstall sysstat And Its Dependencies
To uninstall sysstat
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove sysstat
Remove sysstat Configurations and Data
To remove sysstat
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge sysstat
Remove sysstat configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove sysstat
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge sysstat
