Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install imagej on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is imagej
imagej is:
It can display, edit, analyze, process, save and print 8-bit, 16-bit and
32-bit images. It can read many image formats including TIFF, GIF, JPEG,
BMP, DICOM, FITS and “rawâ€. It supports “stacksâ€, a series of images that
share a single window.
It can calculate area and pixel value statistics of user-defined
selections. It can measure distances and angles. It can create density
histograms and line profile plots. It supports standard image processing
functions such as contrast manipulation, sharpening, smoothing, edge
detection and median filtering.
Spatial calibration is available to provide real world dimensional
measurements in units such as millimeters. Density or gray scale
calibration is also available.
ImageJ is developed by Wayne Rasband ([email protected]), is at the
Research Services Branch, National Institute of Mental Health, Bethesda,
Maryland, USA.
There are three methods to install imagej on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install imagej Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install imagej using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install imagej
Install imagej Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install imagej using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install imagej
Install imagej Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install imagej using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install imagej
How To Uninstall imagej on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the imagej package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove imagej
Uninstall imagej And Its Dependencies
To uninstall imagej and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove imagej
Remove imagej Configurations and Data
To remove imagej configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge imagej
Remove imagej configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove imagej configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge imagej
