In this tutorial we learn how to install krb5-user on Ubuntu 22.04.

What is krb5-user

krb5-user is:

Kerberos is a system for authenticating users and services on a network.
Kerberos is a trusted third-party service. That means that there is a
third party (the Kerberos server) that is trusted by all the entities on
the network (users and services, usually called “principals”).

This is the MIT reference implementation of Kerberos V5.

This package contains the basic programs to authenticate to MIT Kerberos,
change passwords, and talk to the admin server (to create and delete
principals, list principals, etc.).

There are three methods to install krb5-user on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install krb5-user Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install krb5-user using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install krb5-user

Install krb5-user Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install krb5-user using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install krb5-user

Install krb5-user Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install krb5-user using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install krb5-user

How To Uninstall krb5-user on Ubuntu 22.04

To uninstall only the krb5-user package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove krb5-user

Uninstall krb5-user And Its Dependencies

To uninstall krb5-user and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove krb5-user

Remove krb5-user Configurations and Data

To remove krb5-user configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge krb5-user

Remove krb5-user configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove krb5-user configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge krb5-user
