What is libgenome-dev
libgenome-dev is:
libGenome is a freely available toolkit for developing bioinformatic related
software in C++. It is intended to take the hassle out of performing common
tasks on genetic sequence and annotation data.
Among other things, libGenome can help you:
- Read and write Multi-FastA format files
- Read and write GenBank flat file database entries
- Append, chop, truncate, reverse, complement, translate, and otherwise
mangle sequence data - Access annotation in GenBank flat files
This is the development package containing the statically linked
library and the header files.
There are three methods to install libgenome-dev
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get

and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libgenome-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libgenome-dev
using apt-get

sudo apt-get -y install libgenome-dev

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libgenome-dev
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libgenome-dev
Install libgenome-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libgenome-dev
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libgenome-dev
How To Uninstall libgenome-dev on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the libgenome-dev
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libgenome-dev
Uninstall libgenome-dev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libgenome-dev
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libgenome-dev
Remove libgenome-dev Configurations and Data
To remove libgenome-dev
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libgenome-dev
Remove libgenome-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libgenome-dev
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libgenome-dev
