Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libgeos++-dev
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is libgeos++-dev
libgeos++-dev is:
GEOS provides a spatial object model and fundamental geometric
functions. It implements the geometry model defined in the
OpenGIS Consortium Simple Features Specification for SQL.
This package contains the headers and libraries needed to
develop programs using GEOS in C++. Note that third-parties
programs should use the stable C API instead of the
unstable C++ one.
There are three methods to install libgeos++-dev
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libgeos++-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libgeos++-dev
using apt-get

sudo apt-get -y install libgeos++-dev

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libgeos++-dev

by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libgeos++-dev
Install libgeos++-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libgeos++-dev
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libgeos++-dev
How To Uninstall libgeos++-dev on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the libgeos++-dev
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libgeos++-dev
Uninstall libgeos++-dev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libgeos++-dev
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libgeos++-dev
Remove libgeos++-dev Configurations and Data
To remove libgeos++-dev
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libgeos++-dev
Remove libgeos++-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libgeos++-dev
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libgeos++-dev
