How To Install blis on CentOS 8

blis is BLAS-like Library Instantiation Software Framework

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install blis on CentOS 8.

What is blis

BLIS is a portable software framework for instantiating high-performance BLAS-like dense linear algebra libraries. The framework was designed to isolate essential kernels of computation that, when optimized, immediately enable optimized implementations of most of its commonly used and computationally intensive operations. While BLIS exports a new BLAS-like API, it also includes a BLAS compatibility layer which gives application developers access to BLIS implementations via traditional BLAS routine calls. This packaging contains automatically-dispatched architecture-optimized kernels for some targets, notably recent x86_64. This is the serial version.

We can use yum or dnf to install blis on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install blis.

Install blis on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

CentOS Linux 8 - AppStream 43 kB/s | 4.3 kB 00:00
CentOS Linux 8 - BaseOS 65 kB/s | 3.9 kB 00:00
