Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install byacc
on CentOS 8.
What is byacc
This package provides a parser generator utility that reads a grammar specification from a file and generates an LR(1) parser for it. The parsers consist of a set of LALR(1) parsing tables and a driver routine written in the C programming language. It has a public domain license which includes the generated C. If you are going to do development on your system, you will want to install this package.
We can use yum
or dnf
to install byacc
on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install byacc.
Install byacc on CentOS 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf
using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install byacc
using dnf
by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install byacc
Install byacc on CentOS 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum
using the following command.
sudo yum makecache --refresh
The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install byacc
using yum
by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install byacc
How To Uninstall byacc on CentOS 8
To uninstall only the byacc
package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove byacc
