on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is apache2-utils
apache2-utils is:
Provides some add-on programs useful for any web server. These include:
- ab (Apache benchmark tool)
- fcgistarter (Start a FastCGI program)
- logresolve (Resolve IP addresses to hostnames in logfiles)
- htpasswd (Manipulate basic authentication files)
- htdigest (Manipulate digest authentication files)
- htdbm (Manipulate basic authentication files in DBM format, using APR)
- htcacheclean (Clean up the disk cache)
- rotatelogs (Periodically stop writing to a logfile and open a new one)
- split-logfile (Split a single log including multiple vhosts)
- checkgid (Checks whether the caller can setgid to the specified group)
- check_forensic (Extract mod_log_forensic output from Apache log files)
- httxt2dbm (Generate dbm files for use with RewriteMap)
There are three methods to install apache2-utils
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install apache2-utils Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install apache2-utils
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install apache2-utils
Install apache2-utils Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install apache2-utils
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install apache2-utils
Install apache2-utils Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install apache2-utils
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install apache2-utils
How To Uninstall apache2-utils on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the apache2-utils
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove apache2-utils
Uninstall apache2-utils And Its Dependencies
To uninstall apache2-utils
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove apache2-utils
Remove apache2-utils Configurations and Data
To remove apache2-utils
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge apache2-utils
Remove apache2-utils configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove apache2-utils
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge apache2-utils
