Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install appstream-doc on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is appstream-doc
appstream-doc is:
AppStream is a metadata specification which permits software components to
provide information about themselves to automated systems and end-users
before the software is actually installed.
This permits informative displays of new applications to users in software
centers, as well as allowing a system to make decisions on which new software
a user might want to install (e.g. missing firmware or media handlers).
This package provides developer documentation for AppStream.
There are three methods to install appstream-doc on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install appstream-doc Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install appstream-doc using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install appstream-doc
Install appstream-doc Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install appstream-doc using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install appstream-doc
Install appstream-doc Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install appstream-doc using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install appstream-doc
How To Uninstall appstream-doc on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the appstream-doc package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove appstream-doc
Uninstall appstream-doc And Its Dependencies
To uninstall appstream-doc and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove appstream-doc
Remove appstream-doc Configurations and Data
To remove appstream-doc configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge appstream-doc
Remove appstream-doc configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove appstream-doc configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge appstream-doc
