Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install apt-src
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is apt-src
apt-src is:
apt-src is a command line interface for downloading, installing, upgrading,
and tracking Debian source packages. It makes source package management
feel a lot like using apt to manage binary packages, and is being used as
a testbed to work on adding source dependencies to Debian.
It can be run as a normal user, or as root. If you want a convenient way to
track updates to packages while preserving your local modifications, this is
a way to do that.
There are three methods to install apt-src
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install apt-src Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install apt-src
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install apt-src
Install apt-src Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install apt-src
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install apt-src
Install apt-src Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install apt-src
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install apt-src
How To Uninstall apt-src on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the apt-src
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove apt-src
Uninstall apt-src And Its Dependencies
To uninstall apt-src
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove apt-src
Remove apt-src Configurations and Data
To remove apt-src
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge apt-src
Remove apt-src configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove apt-src
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge apt-src
