Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install asciidoc-fop on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is asciidoc-fop
asciidoc-fop is:
AsciiDoc is a text document format for writing articles, books, manuals and
UNIX man pages. AsciiDoc files can be translated to HTML (with or without
stylesheets), DocBook (articles, books and refentry documents) and LinuxDoc
using the asciidoc command. AsciiDoc can also be used to build and maintain
websites.
You write an AsciiDoc document the same way you would write a
normal text document, there are no markup tags or weird format notations.
AsciiDoc files are designed to be viewed, edited and printed directly or
translated to other presentation formats
This metapackage helps you to get all the required dependencies to build pdf
files using fop.
There are three methods to install asciidoc-fop on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install asciidoc-fop Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install asciidoc-fop using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install asciidoc-fop
Install asciidoc-fop Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install asciidoc-fop using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install asciidoc-fop
Install asciidoc-fop Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install asciidoc-fop using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install asciidoc-fop
How To Uninstall asciidoc-fop on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the asciidoc-fop package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove asciidoc-fop
Uninstall asciidoc-fop And Its Dependencies
To uninstall asciidoc-fop and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove asciidoc-fop
Remove asciidoc-fop Configurations and Data
To remove asciidoc-fop configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge asciidoc-fop
Remove asciidoc-fop configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove asciidoc-fop configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge asciidoc-fop
