
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install authprogs
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is authprogs
authprogs is:
authrpogs is invoked on an ssh server and decides if the command
requested by the ssh client should be run or rejected based on
logic in theauthprogs
configuration file.
Passwordless SSH using ssh identies or pubkeys can enable all
sorts of wonderful automation, for example running unattended
batch jobs, slurping down backups, or pushing out code.
Unfortunately a key, once trusted, is allowed by default to run
anything on that system, not just the small set of commands you
actually need. If the key is compromised, you are at risk of a
security breach.
Authprogs is enabled by using the command= option in the
authorized_keys file.
There are three methods to install authprogs
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install authprogs Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install authprogs
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install authprogs
Install authprogs Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install authprogs
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install authprogs
Install authprogs Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install authprogs
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install authprogs
How To Uninstall authprogs on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the authprogs
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove authprogs
Uninstall authprogs And Its Dependencies
To uninstall authprogs
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove authprogs
Remove authprogs Configurations and Data
To remove authprogs
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge authprogs
Remove authprogs configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove authprogs
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge authprogs
