Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install bar
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is bar
bar is:
Bar is a simple tool to process a stream of data and print a display for
the user on stderr showing (a) the amount of data passed, (b) the
throughput of the data transfer, and, if the total size of the data stream
is known, (c) estimated time remaining, percent complete, and a progress bar.
Bar was originally written for the purpose of estimating the amount of time
needed to transfer large amounts (many, many gigabytes) of data across a
network. (Usually in an SSH/tar pipe.)
There are three methods to install bar
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install bar Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install bar
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install bar
Install bar Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install bar
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install bar
Install bar Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install bar
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install bar
How To Uninstall bar on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the bar
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove bar
Uninstall bar And Its Dependencies
To uninstall bar
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove bar
Remove bar Configurations and Data
To remove bar
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge bar
Remove bar configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove bar
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge bar
