Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install barrier on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is barrier
barrier is:
Barrier lets you easily share a single mouse and keyboard between
multiple computers with different operating systems, each with its
own display, without special hardware. It’s intended for users
with multiple computers on their desk since each system uses its
own display.
Redirecting the mouse and keyboard is as simple as moving the mouse
off the edge of your screen. Barrier also merges the clipboards of
all the systems into one, allowing cut-and-paste between systems.
Furthermore, it synchronizes screen savers so they all start and stop
together and, if screen locking is enabled, only one screen requires
a password to unlock them all.
There are three methods to install barrier on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install barrier Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install barrier using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install barrier
Install barrier Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install barrier using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install barrier
Install barrier Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install barrier using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install barrier
How To Uninstall barrier on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the barrier package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove barrier
Uninstall barrier And Its Dependencies
To uninstall barrier and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove barrier
Remove barrier Configurations and Data
To remove barrier configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge barrier
Remove barrier configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove barrier configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge barrier
