What is libgroove-dev
libgroove-dev is:
This C library provides an sink-based API for decoding and encoding audio.
It is intended to be used as a backend for music player applications, however
it may also be used as a backend for any audio processing utility.
Features:
- Uses libav for decoding and encoding.
- Add and remove entries on a playlist for gapless playback.
- Supports idempotent pause, play, and seek.
- Per-playlist-item gain adjustment so you can implement loudness compensation
without audio glitches. - Read and write metadata tags.
- Extensible sink-based interface. A sink provides resampling and keeps its
buffer full. This package contains the raw sink which provides
reference-counted raw audio buffers. Other sinks are built on top of this

There are three methods to install libgroove-dev on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libgroove-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libgroove-dev using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libgroove-dev

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libgroove-dev using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libgroove-dev
Install libgroove-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libgroove-dev using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libgroove-dev
How To Uninstall libgroove-dev on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the libgroove-dev package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libgroove-dev
Uninstall libgroove-dev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libgroove-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libgroove-dev
Remove libgroove-dev Configurations and Data
To remove libgroove-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libgroove-dev
Remove libgroove-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libgroove-dev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libgroove-dev
