In this tutorial we learn how to install aide-xen on Ubuntu 20.04.

What is aide-xen

aide-xen is:

AIDE is an intrusion detection system that detects changes to files on
the local system. It creates a database from the regular expression rules
that it finds from the config file. Once this database is initialized
it can be used to verify the integrity of the files. It has several
message digest algorithms (md5, sha1, rmd160, tiger, haval, etc.) that are
used to check the integrity of the file. More algorithms can be added
with relative ease. All of the usual file attributes can also be checked
for inconsistencies.

This package contains the statically linked binary for XEN-enabled
systems and should be used in Dom0 and DomU.

There are three methods to install aide-xen on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install aide-xen Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install aide-xen using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install aide-xen

Install aide-xen Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install aide-xen using apt by running the following command:

To uninstall aide-xen and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove aide-xen

Remove aide-xen Configurations and Data

To remove aide-xen configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge aide-xen

We can use the following command to remove aide-xen configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge aide-xen
