Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install gobby
on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is gobby
gobby is:
Gobby is an editor which allows one to edit text documents and source files
collaboratively over a network. All users could work on the file
simultaneously without the need to lock it. The parts the various users
write are highlighted in different colours and it supports syntax
highlighting of various programming and markup languages.
Gobby is portable to both Windows and Unix-like platforms and makes use of
the Gtk+ toolkit. A dedicated server is available in the infinoted package.
There are three methods to install gobby
on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install gobby Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install gobby
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install gobby
Install gobby Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install gobby
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install gobby
Install gobby Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install gobby
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install gobby
How To Uninstall gobby on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the gobby
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove gobby
Uninstall gobby And Its Dependencies
To uninstall gobby
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove gobby
Remove gobby Configurations and Data
To remove gobby
configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge gobby
Remove gobby configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove gobby
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gobby
