Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install gvfs-libs
on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is gvfs-libs
gvfs-libs is:
gvfs is a userspace virtual filesystem where mounts run as separate
processes which you talk to via D-Bus. It also contains a gio module
that seamlessly adds gvfs support to all applications using the gio
API. It also supports exposing the gvfs mounts to non-gio applications
using fuse.
This package contains private libraries with common functions between
the daemons and the GIO module.

There are three methods to install gvfs-libs
on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install gvfs-libs Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install gvfs-libs
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install gvfs-libs
Install gvfs-libs Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install gvfs-libs
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install gvfs-libs
Install gvfs-libs Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install gvfs-libs
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install gvfs-libs
How To Uninstall gvfs-libs on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the gvfs-libs
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove gvfs-libs
Uninstall gvfs-libs And Its Dependencies
To uninstall gvfs-libs
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove gvfs-libs
Remove gvfs-libs Configurations and Data
To remove gvfs-libs
configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge gvfs-libs
Remove gvfs-libs configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove gvfs-libs
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gvfs-libs
