on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is libapache2-mod-authn-sasl
libapache2-mod-authn-sasl is:
This module provides the mod_auth_basic authentication front-end
a way to authenticate users by checking credentials via the Cyrus SASL library.
Username and password are checked against the SASL password checking backends,
kerberos5, pam, rimap, shadow and ldap are some of the supported mechanisms.
One of the interesting parts of using a SASL backend is that you do not need
to elevate Apache HTTPD’s access rights to superuser privileges, even when
validating through shadow database.
There are three methods to install libapache2-mod-authn-sasl
on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get

and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libapache2-mod-authn-sasl Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libapache2-mod-authn-sasl
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libapache2-mod-authn-sasl
Install libapache2-mod-authn-sasl Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libapache2-mod-authn-sasl
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libapache2-mod-authn-sasl
Install libapache2-mod-authn-sasl Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libapache2-mod-authn-sasl
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libapache2-mod-authn-sasl
How To Uninstall libapache2-mod-authn-sasl on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the libapache2-mod-authn-sasl
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libapache2-mod-authn-sasl
Uninstall libapache2-mod-authn-sasl And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libapache2-mod-authn-sasl
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libapache2-mod-authn-sasl
Remove libapache2-mod-authn-sasl Configurations and Data
To remove libapache2-mod-authn-sasl
configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libapache2-mod-authn-sasl
Remove libapache2-mod-authn-sasl configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libapache2-mod-authn-sasl
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libapache2-mod-authn-sasl
