What is libdeflate-tools
libdeflate-tools is:
The supported formats are:
- DEFLATE (raw)
- zlib (a.k.a. DEFLATE with a zlib wrapper)
- gzip (a.k.a. DEFLATE with a gzip wrapper)
libdeflate is heavily optimized. It is significantly faster than the zlib
library, both for compression and decompression, and especially on x86
processors. In addition, libdeflate provides optional high compression modes
that provide a better compression ratio than the zlib’s “level 9”.
This package provides the sample tools.
There are three methods to install libdeflate-tools
on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get

and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libdeflate-tools Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libdeflate-tools
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libdeflate-tools
Install libdeflate-tools Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libdeflate-tools
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libdeflate-tools
Install libdeflate-tools Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libdeflate-tools
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libdeflate-tools
How To Uninstall libdeflate-tools on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the libdeflate-tools
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libdeflate-tools
Uninstall libdeflate-tools And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libdeflate-tools
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libdeflate-tools
Remove libdeflate-tools Configurations and Data
To remove libdeflate-tools
configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libdeflate-tools
Remove libdeflate-tools configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libdeflate-tools
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libdeflate-tools
