In this tutorial we learn how to install activemq on Kali Linux.

What is activemq

activemq is:

Apache ActiveMQ is a message broker built around Java Message Service (JMS)
API : allow sending messages between two or more clients in a loosely coupled,
reliable, and asynchronous way.

This message broker supports :

  • JMS 1.1 and J2EE 1.4 with support for transient, persistent, transactional
    and XA messaging
  • Spring Framework, CXF and Axis integration
  • pluggable transport protocols such as in-VM, TCP, SSL, NIO, UDP, multicast,
    JGroups and JXTA
  • persistence using JDBC along with journaling
  • OpenWire (cross language wire protocol) and
    Stomp (Streaming Text Orientated Messaging Protocol) protocols

This package contains a server installation of ActiveMQ.

There are three methods to install activemq on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install activemq Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install activemq using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install activemq

Install activemq Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install activemq using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install activemq

Install activemq Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install activemq using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install activemq

How To Uninstall activemq on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the activemq package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove activemq

Uninstall activemq And Its Dependencies

To uninstall activemq and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove activemq

Remove activemq Configurations and Data

To remove activemq configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge activemq

Remove activemq configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove activemq configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge activemq
