Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install argus-client on Kali Linux.
What is argus-client
argus-client is:
argus is a network transaction auditing tool that allows the user
to easily classify connections using tcpdump(1) compliant expressions.
Argus runs as an application level daemon, promiscuously reading network
datagrams from a specified interface, and generates network traffic audit
records for the network activity that it encounters.
Auditing records can be used to ensure that access control policies are
being enforced, identify network problems such as denial of service attacks
and more.
This package contains the client programs for the argus server.
Please see the package argus-server for the appropriate server.
There are three methods to install argus-client on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install argus-client Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install argus-client using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install argus-client
Install argus-client Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install argus-client using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install argus-clientInstall argus-client Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install argus-client using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install argus-client
How To Uninstall argus-client on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the argus-client package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove argus-client
Uninstall argus-client And Its Dependencies
To uninstall argus-client and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove argus-client
Remove argus-client Configurations and Data
To remove argus-client configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge argus-client
Remove argus-client configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove argus-client configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge argus-client
