Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install astcenc on Kali Linux.
What is astcenc
astcenc is:
The Adaptive Scalable Texture Compression (ASTC) format, developed by
Arm? and AMD, has been adopted as an official extension to the Open GL?,
OpenGL ES, and Vulkan? graphics APIs. It provides a major step forward
both in terms of image quality at a given bitrate, and in terms of the
format and bitrate flexibility available to content creators. This
allows more assets to use compression, often at a reduced bitrate
compared to legacy formats, reducing memory bandwidth and energy
consumption.
This package provides the command-line tool to compress and decompress
images.
There are three methods to install astcenc on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install astcenc Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install astcenc using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install astcencInstall astcenc Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install astcenc using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install astcencInstall astcenc Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install astcenc using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install astcenc
How To Uninstall astcenc on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the astcenc package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove astcenc
Uninstall astcenc And Its Dependencies
To uninstall astcenc and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove astcenc
Remove astcenc Configurations and Data
To remove astcenc configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge astcenc
Remove astcenc configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove astcenc configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge astcenc
