In this tutorial we learn how to install axel on Kali Linux.
What is axel
axel is:
Axel tries to accelerate the downloading process by using multiple
connections for one file, similar to DownThemAll and other famous
programs. It can also use multiple mirrors for one download.
Using Axel, you will get files faster from Internet. So, Axel can
speed up a download up to 60% (approximately, according to some tests).
Axel supports HTTP, HTTPS, FTP and FTPS protocols.
Axel tries to be as light as possible, so it might be useful as a
wget clone (and other console based programs) on byte-critical systems.
There are three methods to install axel on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install axel Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install axel using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install axelInstall axel Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install axel using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install axelInstall axel Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install axel using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install axel
How To Uninstall axel on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the axel package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove axel
Uninstall axel And Its Dependencies
To uninstall axel and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove axel
Remove axel Configurations and Data
To remove axel configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge axel
Remove axel configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove axel configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge axel
