Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install backintime-common
on Kali Linux.
What is backintime-common
backintime-common is:
Back In Time is a framework for rsync and cron for the purpose of
taking snapshots and backups of specified folders. It minimizes disk space use
by taking a snapshot only if the directory has been changed, and hard links
for unmodified files if it has. The user can schedule regular backups using
cron.
This is the common framework for Back In Time. For a graphical interface,
install backintime-qt.
To back up to SSH or encrypted filesystems, install the additional sshfs
or encfs packages.
There are three methods to install backintime-common
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install backintime-common Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install backintime-common
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install backintime-common
Install backintime-common Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install backintime-common
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install backintime-common
Install backintime-common Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install backintime-common
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install backintime-common
How To Uninstall backintime-common on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the backintime-common
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove backintime-common
Uninstall backintime-common And Its Dependencies
To uninstall backintime-common
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove backintime-common
Remove backintime-common Configurations and Data
To remove backintime-common
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge backintime-common
Remove backintime-common configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove backintime-common
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge backintime-common
