What is bfbtester
bfbtester is:
BFBTester is great for doing quick, proactive, security checks of
binary programs. BFBTester will perform checks of single and multiple
argument command line overflows as well as environment variable
overflows. BFBTester can also watch for tempfile creation activity to
alert the user of any programs using unsafe tempfile names. While
BFBTester can not test all overflows in software, it is useful for
detecting initial mistakes that can red flag dangerous software.
There are three methods to install bfbtester on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install bfbtester Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install bfbtester using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install bfbtesterInstall bfbtester Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install bfbtester using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install bfbtesterInstall bfbtester Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install bfbtester using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install bfbtester
How To Uninstall bfbtester on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the bfbtester package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove bfbtester
Uninstall bfbtester And Its Dependencies
To uninstall bfbtester and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove bfbtester
Remove bfbtester Configurations and Data
To remove bfbtester configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge bfbtester
Remove bfbtester configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove bfbtester configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge bfbtester
