Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install debfoster on Kali Linux.
What is debfoster
debfoster is:
debfoster is a wrapper program for apt and dpkg. When first run, it
will ask you which of the installed packages you want to keep
installed.
After that, it maintains a list of packages that you want to have
installed on your system. It uses this list to detect packages that
have been installed only because other packages depended on them. If
one of these dependencies changes, debfoster will take notice, and
ask if you want to remove the old package.
This helps you to maintain a clean Debian install, without old
(mainly library) packages lying around that aren’t used any more.
There are three methods to install debfoster on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install debfoster Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install debfoster using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install debfosterInstall debfoster Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install debfoster using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install debfosterInstall debfoster Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install debfoster using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install debfoster
How To Uninstall debfoster on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the debfoster package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove debfoster
Uninstall debfoster And Its Dependencies
To uninstall debfoster and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove debfoster
Remove debfoster Configurations and Data
To remove debfoster configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge debfoster
Remove debfoster configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove debfoster configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge debfoster
