Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install dicoweb on Kali Linux.
What is dicoweb
dicoweb is:
GNU Dico is an implementation of the DICT protocol as defined in RFC 2229.
It is fully modular: the daemon itself (dicod) provides only the server
functionality, and knows nothing about database formats. Actual searches
are performed by functions supplied in loadable modules. A single module
can serve one or more databases.
This package provides a web interface for database searches.
There are three methods to install dicoweb on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install dicoweb Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install dicoweb using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install dicowebInstall dicoweb Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install dicoweb using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install dicowebInstall dicoweb Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install dicoweb using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install dicoweb
How To Uninstall dicoweb on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the dicoweb package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove dicoweb
Uninstall dicoweb And Its Dependencies
To uninstall dicoweb and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove dicoweb
Remove dicoweb Configurations and Data
To remove dicoweb configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge dicoweb
Remove dicoweb configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove dicoweb configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge dicoweb
