What is dns-root-data
dns-root-data is:
This package contains various root zone related data as published
by IANA to be used by various DNS software as a common source
of DNS root zone data, namely:
- Root Hints (root.hints)
- Root Trust Anchors (root.key, root.ds)
There are three methods to install dns-root-data
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install dns-root-data Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install dns-root-data
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install dns-root-data

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install dns-root-data
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install dns-root-data
Install dns-root-data Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install dns-root-data
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install dns-root-data
How To Uninstall dns-root-data on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the dns-root-data
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove dns-root-data
Uninstall dns-root-data And Its Dependencies
To uninstall dns-root-data
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove dns-root-data
Remove dns-root-data Configurations and Data
To remove dns-root-data
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge dns-root-data
Remove dns-root-data configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove dns-root-data

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge dns-root-data
