In this tutorial we learn how to install firewall-config on Ubuntu 22.04.

What is firewall-config

firewall-config is:

firewalld is a dynamically managed firewall daemon with support for
network/firewall zones to define the trust level of network connections
or interfaces. It has support for IPv4, IPv6 firewall settings and for
ethernet bridges and has a separation of runtime and persistent
configuration options.
It also provides a D-Bus interface for services or applications to add
and apply firewall rules on-the-fly.

This package provides a graphical configuration tool to change the
firewall settings.

There are three methods to install firewall-config on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install firewall-config Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install firewall-config using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install firewall-config

Install firewall-config Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install firewall-config using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install firewall-config

Install firewall-config Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install firewall-config using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install firewall-config

How To Uninstall firewall-config on Ubuntu 22.04

To uninstall only the firewall-config package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove firewall-config

Uninstall firewall-config And Its Dependencies

To uninstall firewall-config and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove firewall-config

Remove firewall-config Configurations and Data

To remove firewall-config configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge firewall-config

Remove firewall-config configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove firewall-config configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge firewall-config
