Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install foomatic-db on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is foomatic-db
foomatic-db is:
Foomatic is a printing system designed to make it easier to set up
common printers for use with Debian (and other operating systems).
It provides the “glue†between a print spooler (like CUPS or lpr) and
your actual printer, by telling your computer how to process files
sent to the printer.
This package contains the printer database distributed by
OpenPrinting for most common drivers. You will probably need
the foomatic-db-engine package for this package to be useful.
There are three methods to install foomatic-db on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install foomatic-db Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install foomatic-db using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install foomatic-db
Install foomatic-db Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install foomatic-db using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install foomatic-db
Install foomatic-db Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install foomatic-db using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install foomatic-db
How To Uninstall foomatic-db on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the foomatic-db package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove foomatic-db
Uninstall foomatic-db And Its Dependencies
To uninstall foomatic-db and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove foomatic-db
Remove foomatic-db Configurations and Data
To remove foomatic-db configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge foomatic-db
Remove foomatic-db configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove foomatic-db configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge foomatic-db
