Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install policykit-1-gnome
on Kali Linux.
What is policykit-1-gnome
policykit-1-gnome is:
PolicyKit-gnome provides a D-Bus session bus service that is used to
bring up authentication dialogs used for obtaining privileges.
This implementation was originally designed for GNOME 2, but most
GNOME-based desktop environments, including GNOME 3, GNOME Flashback,
and MATE, have their own built-in PolicyKit agents and no longer use
this one. The remaining users of this implementation are Cinnamon, XFCE
and Unity.
There are three methods to install policykit-1-gnome
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install policykit-1-gnome Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install policykit-1-gnome
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install policykit-1-gnome
Install policykit-1-gnome Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install policykit-1-gnome
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install policykit-1-gnome
Install policykit-1-gnome Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install policykit-1-gnome
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install policykit-1-gnome
How To Uninstall policykit-1-gnome on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the policykit-1-gnome
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove policykit-1-gnome
Uninstall policykit-1-gnome And Its Dependencies
To uninstall policykit-1-gnome
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove policykit-1-gnome
Remove policykit-1-gnome Configurations and Data
To remove policykit-1-gnome
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge policykit-1-gnome
Remove policykit-1-gnome configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove policykit-1-gnome
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge policykit-1-gnome
