Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install 9wm
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is 9wm
9wm is:
It provides a very simple and clean user interface. It is click-to-type. It
uses the X11 font system (which, unfortunately, means no Unicode support).
9wm does not provide virtual desktops, customization, key bindings, EWMH
support, or compositing. It does not allocate any colors, which will be
great news if you are stuck in 1993.
It is a great place to start if you are interested in writing a window
manager from scratch: many folks have done exactly this.
There are three methods to install 9wm
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install 9wm Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install 9wm
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install 9wm
Install 9wm Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install 9wm
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install 9wm
Install 9wm Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install 9wm
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install 9wm
How To Uninstall 9wm on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the 9wm
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove 9wm
Uninstall 9wm And Its Dependencies
To uninstall 9wm
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove 9wm
Remove 9wm Configurations and Data
To remove 9wm
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge 9wm
Remove 9wm configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove 9wm
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge 9wm
