Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install aapt on Kali Linux.
What is aapt
aapt is:
The Android Asset Packaging Tool (aapt) takes your application resource
files, such as the AndroidManifest.xml file and the XML files for your
Activities, and compiles them. An R.java is also produced so you can
reference your resources from your Java code. This tool allows you to view,
create, and update Zip-compatible archives (zip, jar, apk). It can also
compile resources into binary assets.

There are three methods to install aapt on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install aapt Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install aapt using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install aaptInstall aapt Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install aapt using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install aaptInstall aapt Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install aapt using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install aapt
How To Uninstall aapt on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the aapt package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove aaptUninstall aapt And Its Dependencies
To uninstall aapt and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove aaptRemove aapt Configurations and Data
To remove aapt configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge aaptRemove aapt configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove aapt configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge aaptDependencies
