Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install abi-tracker
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is abi-tracker
abi-tracker is:
abi-tracker generates an ABI (Application Binary Interface) compatibility
report for a C or C++ library. The report gets rendered to static HTML pages.
The tool is intended for developers of software libraries and Linux
maintainers who are interested in ensuring backward binary compatibility,
i.e. allow old applications to run with newer library versions.
abi-tracker requires an input profile for the library in JSON format,
which holds various metadata to check ABI compatibility.
It can be created manually or automatically generated by the abi-monitor tool.
There are three methods to install abi-tracker
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install abi-tracker Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install abi-tracker
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install abi-tracker
Install abi-tracker Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install abi-tracker
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install abi-tracker
Install abi-tracker Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install abi-tracker
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install abi-tracker
How To Uninstall abi-tracker on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the abi-tracker
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove abi-tracker
Uninstall abi-tracker And Its Dependencies
To uninstall abi-tracker
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove abi-tracker
Remove abi-tracker Configurations and Data
To remove abi-tracker
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge abi-tracker
Remove abi-tracker configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove abi-tracker
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge abi-tracker
