What is ack
ack is:
Ack is designed as an alternative for 99% of the uses of grep. ack is
intelligent about the files it searches. It knows about certain file
types, based on both the extension on the file and, in some cases, the
contents of the file.
Ack ignores backup files and files under CVS and .svn directories. It
also highlights matches to help you see where the match was. Ack uses
perl regular expressions.
There are three methods to install ack on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ack Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ack using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ack
Install ack Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install ack using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ack
Install ack Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install ack using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ack
How To Uninstall ack on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the ack package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ack
Uninstall ack And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ack and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ack
Remove ack Configurations and Data
To remove ack configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ack
Remove ack configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove ack configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ack
