Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install afio
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is afio
afio is:
Afio manipulates groups of files, copying them within or between
filesystems and an afio archive.
Afio archives are portable as they contain only ASCII-formatted header
information. Afio makes cpio-format archives. Afio deals somewhat
gracefully with input data corruption. Afio supports multi-volume
archives during interactive operation. Afio can make compressed
archives that are much safer than compressed tar or cpio archives.
Afio is best used as an `archive engine’ in a backup script.
There are three methods to install afio
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install afio Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install afio
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install afio

sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install afio
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install afio
Install afio Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install afio
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install afio
How To Uninstall afio on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the afio
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove afio
Uninstall afio And Its Dependencies
To uninstall afio
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove afio
Remove afio Configurations and Data
To remove afio
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge afio
Remove afio configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove afio
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge afio
