Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install alien-hunter on Kali Linux.
What is alien-hunter
alien-hunter is:
Alien_hunter is an application for the prediction of putative
Horizontal Gene Transfer (HGT) events with the implementation of
Interpolated Variable Order Motifs (IVOMs). An IVOM approach
exploits compositional biases using variable order motif distributions
and captures more reliably the local composition of a sequence compared
to fixed-order methods. Optionally the predictions can be parsed into a
2-state 2nd order Hidden Markov Model (HMM), in a change-point detection
framework, to optimize the localization of the boundaries of the
predicted regions. The predictions (embl format) can be automatically
loaded into Artemis genome viewer freely available at:
http://www.sanger.ac.uk/Software/Artemis/.

There are three methods to install alien-hunter on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install alien-hunter Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install alien-hunter using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install alien-hunterInstall alien-hunter Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install alien-hunter using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install alien-hunterInstall alien-hunter Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install alien-hunter using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install alien-hunter
How To Uninstall alien-hunter on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the alien-hunter package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove alien-hunter
Uninstall alien-hunter And Its Dependencies
To uninstall alien-hunter and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove alien-hunter
Remove alien-hunter Configurations and Data
To remove alien-hunter configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge alien-hunter
Remove alien-hunter configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove alien-hunter configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge alien-hunter
