Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install anfo
on Kali Linux.
What is anfo
anfo is:
Anfo is a mapper in the spirit of Soap/Maq/Bowtie, but its implementation takes
more after BLAST/BLAT. It’s most useful for the alignment of sequencing reads
where the DNA sequence is somehow modified (think ancient DNA or bisulphite
treatment) and/or there is more divergence between sample and reference than
what fast mappers will handle gracefully (say the reference genome is missing
and a related species is used instead).
There are three methods to install anfo
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install anfo Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install anfo
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install anfo

using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install anfo
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install anfo
Install anfo Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install anfo
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install anfo
How To Uninstall anfo on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the anfo
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove anfo
Uninstall anfo And Its Dependencies
To uninstall anfo
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove anfo
Remove anfo Configurations and Data
To remove anfo
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge anfo
Remove anfo configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove anfo
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge anfo
