Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install angband on Kali Linux.
What is angband
angband is:
Angband is a single-player, text-based, dungeon simulation derived
from the game Moria, which was in turn based on Rogue. It is
often described as a “roguelike” game because the look and feel of
the game is still quite similar to Rogue (though there are now graphical
tiles available if you dislike ASCII gaming). Angband has been in more or
less continuous development since the early 1990s.
The ultimate goal of the game is to develop a character strong enough
to defeat Morgoth, who resides on dungeon level 100. Upon doing so,
you will receive the exalted status of “winner” and your character may
retire. To achieve this you will need to explore numerous dungeon levels,
defeat many foes and sift through a great deal of treasure.
Angband is a reference to Morgoth’s “prison of iron” in the world of
Middle-Earth, created by J.R.R. Tolkien.
There are three methods to install angband on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install angband Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install angband using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install angbandInstall angband Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install angband using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install angbandInstall angband Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install angband using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install angband
How To Uninstall angband on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the angband package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove angband
Uninstall angband And Its Dependencies
To uninstall angband and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove angband
Remove angband Configurations and Data
To remove angband configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge angband
Remove angband configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove angband configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge angband
