Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install apt-config-icons on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is apt-config-icons
apt-config-icons is:
This package contains an APT configuration snippet that enables the
download of an icon tarball containing application icons for display in
software centers.
Icons get downloaded directly from the archive via regular cache updates,
and match the software currently available in the respective archive suites.
This snippet enables icons of the default icon size set in the AppStream
specification for software centers, 64x64px. It also enables downloads
of smaller 48x48px icons.
There are three methods to install apt-config-icons on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install apt-config-icons Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install apt-config-icons using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install apt-config-icons
Install apt-config-icons Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install apt-config-icons using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install apt-config-icons
Install apt-config-icons Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install apt-config-icons using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install apt-config-icons
How To Uninstall apt-config-icons on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the apt-config-icons package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove apt-config-icons
Uninstall apt-config-icons And Its Dependencies
To uninstall apt-config-icons and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove apt-config-icons
Remove apt-config-icons Configurations and Data
To remove apt-config-icons configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge apt-config-icons
Remove apt-config-icons configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove apt-config-icons configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge apt-config-icons
