Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install apt-show-versions on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is apt-show-versions
apt-show-versions is:
apt-show-versions parses the dpkg status file and the APT lists for
the installed and available package versions and distribution and
shows upgrade options within the specific distribution of the selected
package.
This is really useful if you have a mixed stable/testing environment
and want to list all packages which are from testing and can be
upgraded in testing.
There are three methods to install apt-show-versions on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install apt-show-versions Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install apt-show-versions using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install apt-show-versions
Install apt-show-versions Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install apt-show-versions using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install apt-show-versions
Install apt-show-versions Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install apt-show-versions using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install apt-show-versions
How To Uninstall apt-show-versions on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the apt-show-versions package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove apt-show-versions
Uninstall apt-show-versions And Its Dependencies
To uninstall apt-show-versions and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove apt-show-versions
Remove apt-show-versions Configurations and Data
To remove apt-show-versions configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge apt-show-versions
Remove apt-show-versions configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove apt-show-versions configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge apt-show-versions
