on Kali Linux.
What is autotools-dev
autotools-dev is:
This package installs an up-to-date version of config.guess and
config.sub, used by the automake and libtool packages. It provides
the canonical copy of those files for other packages as well.
It also documents in /usr/share/doc/autotools-dev/README.Debian.gz
best practices and guidelines for using autoconf, automake and
friends on Debian packages. This is a must-read for any developers
packaging software that uses the GNU autotools, or GNU gettext.
Additionally this package provides seamless integration into Debhelper
or CDBS, allowing maintainers to easily update config.{guess,sub} files
in their packages.
There are three methods to install autotools-dev
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install autotools-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install autotools-dev
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install autotools-dev

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install autotools-dev
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install autotools-dev
Install autotools-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install autotools-dev
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install autotools-dev
How To Uninstall autotools-dev on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the autotools-dev
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove autotools-dev
Uninstall autotools-dev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall autotools-dev
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove autotools-dev
Remove autotools-dev Configurations and Data
To remove autotools-dev
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge autotools-dev
Remove autotools-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove autotools-dev
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge autotools-dev
