Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install avfs on Kali Linux.
What is avfs
avfs is:
This FUSE-base VFS (Virtual FileSystem) enables all programs to look inside
archived or compressed files, or access remote files without recompiling the
programs or changing the kernel.
At the moment it supports floppies, tar and gzip files, zip, bzip2, ar and rar
files, ftp sessions, http, webdav, rsh/rcp, ssh/scp. Quite a few other
handlers are implemented with the Midnight Commander’s external FS.
There are three methods to install avfs on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install avfs Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install avfs using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install avfsInstall avfs Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install avfs using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install avfsInstall avfs Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install avfs using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install avfs
How To Uninstall avfs on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the avfs package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove avfs
Uninstall avfs And Its Dependencies
To uninstall avfs and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove avfs
Remove avfs Configurations and Data
To remove avfs configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge avfs
Remove avfs configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove avfs configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge avfs
